Do You Really Have What It Takes to Succeed as an Entrepreneur?

Alright, let’s get real. Because this needs to be said. And I want you to really think hard if you have what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Running a small business is TOUGH. It’s emotional. It’s gritty. It’s raw. It’s vulnerable. It’s a bag of shit at times. And it’s incredibly awesome at times. But you know what … it’s completely full of all of that and more. It’s incredibly unstable, it’s lonely as you make more money and as you have more success, and nobody (other than other entrepreneurs in your field) will truly understand the kind of shit that you have to deal with.

And yes, that emotional rollercoaster is always going up and down.

And those “ups” and “downs” always look different with the further you get along in your career. Your first dollar can feel more exciting than your first 5-figure week. Your first expansion can feel more stressful than buying your first house.  Like I said, it’s emotional. It’s stressful. It’s tough.

So to really succeed as an entrepreneur, you have to really get intentional about taking emotion OUT of it as much as you possibly can. And with that, you have to do your absolute best to not get wrapped up in taking everything personally. Things will be torn apart. Things will fail. Things will not go as planned. That’s just a part of it.

But successful small business owners don’t let that stop them.

Successful small business owners press on.

They take failures as merely lessons on what not to do, and that very day, you get up and find a solution to that problem/obstacle and you press on.

You shake it off.

You don’t let it suck your energy.

You don’t let the haters get in your way.

There will ALWAYS be haters. It’s just a numbers game. And when your audience builds, that percentage of haters remains to be the same. Just understand that you will never be able to please everybody, nor should you aim to. The only people that you need to be making happy are the people who are within your tribe. The people who will be coming back to you time and time again… because you are leading with VALUE. You are getting your audience RESULTS. And no matter what you do, that’s all that your customer cares about – results that THEY get.

So, no matter where you are in the stage of your life as a business owner – just know that the rollercoaster of emotions never stops. But that’s not a bad thing. For some reason, us entrepreneurs crave that rollercoaster. It keeps it fresh. It keeps it interesting. It keeps us on our toes. Us entrepreneurs hate the boring. The mundane. The regular. We want something new. We love a challenge. And that’s exactly what owning a business is. It’s the biggest challenge, and the most rewarding challenge when done right.

Never settle.

Never become comfortable.

Always be educating yourself.

Learn from others who have had success with what you are wanting to do. (That’s what I do, and will always do.)

It’s not an easy ride, but it’s absolutely, positively worth it.

You just need the right support by your side, the right circle of peers, the right tribe, and the right offer. The one that makes you so insanely passionate about what you’re doing that you will persevere through all of those obstacles that are coming. Because they are coming. But who cares… because you love what you do. It’s your baby. And that’s why it’s so emotional. And for those super emotional days – those right people who are in your corner are the ones you can lean on when times get tough.

Either way, to succeed the best you can, in summary… it’s about these 10 things:

  • Becoming as unemotional about the decisions you make and the feedback you get
  • Being very intentional about literally everything you do in your personal and professional life
  • Focusing on health first, because you can’t succeed when you’re sick, injured, or dead.
  • Building authentic, powerful relationships with great, intelligent, like-minded people
  • Dropping ego. It’s the killer of everything.
  • Pay for quality information and education. Stop trying to do everything yourself with trial and error. Take the shortcut.  If you got shit advice from someone, someone else has the right information for you. Keep looking. Keep taking action.
  • Never settle. Don’t become comfortable. Always be growing. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone.
  • Don’t let haters slow you down. They will always be there. Get visible. Keep pressing forward.
  • Remember your passion. Your why. Your reason why you do what you do. It’ll get you through the shitty moments.
  • Remember that it’s all worth it. You love this. Just learn how to do it better. Keep climbing. Get support along the way. Don’t be ashamed of wanting support or needing it. It’s the smart way to go. (And that’s why I have my own coaches and mentors, and why I always will.)

As always, let me know if you have any questions about any of that. I am here to help with anything I can.
